Race History & The Legacy of John Jantz
The Snow Fun Run traces its roots back to a surprisingly warm winter day in 1980 at the iconic Playboy Club in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. More than 1,000 runners showed up for that very first wild and unforgettable event. The late John Jantz kicked things off with the starter’s pistol, and—because it was the Playboy Club—Playboy Bunnies handed out the trophies in full uniform.
From that legendary beginning, the race has continued to evolve. Over the years, we’ve added new twists, bigger crowds, bolder themes, and the kind of party atmosphere that has made this event a Midwest favorite for decades.
What started as a quirky winter run has grown into one of the most beloved race-and-party traditions around—a blend of athletic challenge, winter chaos, and pure celebratory fun.
Join us for the annual running of the best darn race (and afterparty) in the Midwest—and help carry on the legacy that John Jantz kicked off all those years ago
